I've owned similar products by different brands in the past, to see them lose shape and become both weird looking and dysfunctional over time. As for this product, while the supporting layers are made up of strengthened cardboard so far as I can tell, (the upppermost one with the hangers is a metal frame) even with all the shelves completely stuffed with clothes, (the lowest one with two shoes actually), this thing stays in very good shape, and the shelves stand almost straight, so considering the price, the quality is impressive. This, intended for my girlfriend's closet held up so good that after two weeks I bought the same model in the different color for my closet, and very satisfied with both. Goes to show that cheap need not mean flimsy.
